RTI Act to ensure good governance

Chief Information Commissioner Martuza Ahmed has said that establishment of good government can be possible if the Right to Information Act (RTI) is applied properly. “The act can only ensure rule of law in the country.  So the people should be aware and interested in exercising the Right to Information Act. It will play a significant role in stamping out the corruption from the society,” he said. 

Martuza Ahmed said these while speaking at the inaugural session of a workshop for woman journalist on RTI at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Sylhet on Thursday.  He said that they will introduce the system for submitting allegation through online. The process is going on.  It will be introduced through a pilot project from Sylhet sadar upazila. Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen will inaugurate the project soon, he said.  He also said that Right to Information Act was initiated to ensure people’s right to know any information any time.

Mir Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Director of LGD in Sylhet, presided over the workshop while Tawfiqul Alom, secretary of Information Commission, Sylhet divisional commissioner Md Mustafijur Rahman, President of BNSK Nosimul Ara Huq, General Secretary Parvin Sultana Jhuma, Deputy Director of Sylhet  district information office Julia Jesmin Mili spoke at the event, among others.  At total of 25 female journalists participated at the workshop.
