Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained a Rohingya man with 80,000 yaba tablets while attempting to smuggle them across the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari, Bandarban.

The operation was carried out early Thursday morning in the Westkul area of Tumbru, under Dhumdhum Union in Naikhongchhari Upazila, according to Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, Commanding Officer of BGB Battalion 34, Cox’s Bazar.

The detainee has been identified as Mohammad Alam (30), son of Md Nurul Haque, a resident of Block A-1 in Kutupalong 2-East Rohingya Camp, Ukhiya.

Lt Col Khairul Alam stated that, acting on intelligence about a major drug consignment entering from Myanmar, a BGB patrol intercepted several individuals crossing the border. Upon noticing the presence of BGB personnel, the suspects attempted to flee, abandoning a bag. One individual was captured after a brief chase, while the others escaped.

A search of the bag revealed 80,000 yaba tablets. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested individual at Naikhongchhari Police Station, the BGB official confirmed.
