Robson Azevedo da Silva, commonly known as Robinho, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Bashundhara Kings. The other striker is Pa Omar Jobe, the Gambian professional football player, who now plays for SK Jamal Dhanmondi Club.

These two forward, are ripping apart the current BPL season with their goals. Both of them scored 12 goals in 12 outings each for their respective clubs after the first phase of this season’s BPL.

Robinho, the striker moved abroad for the first time in his career and joined Bashundhara Kings on August 5, 2020. He played his first match against Rahmatganj MFS in Federation Cup on December 22, 2020 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. In addition, the striker scored on his first encounter with Rahmatganj. The Forward netted two goals in that tournament. Bashundhara Kings became champions of Federation Cup in that season and the Brazilian striker stole the limelight with his all-round display.

Robinho is not done yet and is hungry for more goals. The forward wishes to score more goals in the second phase in the ongoing tournament and looks to continue his superb goal-scoring form. The opposition always have to make special plans to stop him. However, so far they failed to do so. In a recent BPL match against Arambagh KS, he scored a hat-trick, which was his first hat-trick in BPL.

Coach Oscar Bruzon, players and the supporters of the team expect that he will score more goals and help them to retain the title. The team relies a lot on him now.

On the other hand, Pa Omar Jobe, is the national hero of Gambia and along with Robinho, he is the most in-form striker of the tourney. The striker scored his first goal against Muktijoddha SKC on January 21 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. By scoring against, Brothers Union at the BNS on February 25, he netted his 12th goal of the current season.

SK Jamal coach Shafiqul Islam Manik hopes that Jobe will continue to show his performance in the second phase and the team will clinch the title.

One thing is clear, a total of 235 goals from 78 matches in the first phase, of this more than 50 per cent have been scored by the foreign strikers. This shows the failure of our local striker which is a frustrating scenario in country’s football for the last decade. It means all the 13 teams very much depend on foreign strikers to win the game and hope for title. This must change.
