A robbery has been reported at the home of a retired college teacher and his wife, a schoolteacher, in Khiligati village of Chitalmari upazila, Bagerhat. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to reports, the robbers tied up the women of the house and fled with cash and about eight bhori (approximately 93 grams) of gold ornaments. Police later visited the scene.
Homeowner Mukulesh Dhali, a retired college teacher and suspended president of the ruling Awami League’s 9th Ward of Sadar Union, told journalists, “Around dawn, my wife, schoolteacher Kakoli Dhali, went to the bathroom. At that time, three to four robbers entered the house. They assaulted her, and when I tried to intervene, they beat me as well. They tied me, my wife, and my elderly mother, then ransacked the cupboards and showcases, taking gold jewellery and cash before fleeing. Later, locals rescued us after hearing our cries for help.”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rokeya Khanam of Chitalmari Police Station said, “It appears to be a theft incident. I have visited the scene, and an investigation is underway. A case will be filed once a written complaint is submitted.”
