An attempted robbery at a gold shop in Demra turned violent when miscreants hurled explosives, injuring five individuals, including shop owners and nearby vendors. The injured have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
The incident occurred late Sunday night at Johnny Super Market's Fardin Jewellery Shop, located at Konapara Mominbagh Crossroads.
According to witnesses, around 10:30 pm, several assailants on motorcycles arrived at the scene, creating chaos before targeting Monir Hossain's shop with an explosive device. Gunfire ensued, causing panic among bystanders and resulting in injuries to Monir Hossain (42), Shihab (30), Anwar Hossain (27), Bappi (18), and Qaiyum (30), a local vegetable seller.
Witness Wahab recounted the harrowing event, noting that after the assailants fled with stolen goods, the injured were quickly transported to DMCH.
He added that the robbery left significant losses, including a substantial amount of stolen gold jewellery from the shop.
DMCH Police Camp in charge Bachchu Miah confirmed the incident and informed that Demra Police are actively investigating the case.
