Robberies on the rise in Mymensingh

Recently there has been an increase in robbery and theft cases in Mymensingh. There have been 13 robberies this year. Civic leaders have expressed concern over such incidents. According to the police, most of the incidents are being planned while in jail and after being released from the district on bail, the Dhakaites of Oison inter-district committed the heinous robbery.

According to the police and related sources, 13 incidents of robbery have occurred in the divisional city of Mymensingh and its surrounding upazilas this year. Apart from this, theft is a daily occurrence. Many families have become destitute in these incidents. Businessmen in panic. However, in addition to uncovering the cause of all the robberies, the law enforcement forces have been successful in arresting those involved and recovering the looted goods.

According to police data, 79 out of 83 people arrested in 13 robberies are from outside Mymensingh district. Each has multiple cases to his name. Apart from driving van-easybikes during the day, they worked as laborers. They used to plan the robbery while sitting in jail. The police officials said to increase vigilance in the cases of robbery and theft one after another.

It is also known that on July 20, around 9:30 PM, a gang of robbers opened fire and looted a gold shop in Mymensingh's Bhaluka Bazar. Later, the members of the dacoit gang escaped by exploding the cocktail. After two months of this incident, the group of robbers robbed two gold shops in Nandale Bazar on September 24 midnight.

The CCTV footage shows a gang of 20 to 25 robbers holding seven security guards hostage at gunpoint. Later, they left the place after tying and bursting the cocktail.

At that time, they looted 4 gold ornaments and 40 taka from Mukta Jewellers, 13 gold ornaments and 50 taka from Bismillah Jewellers, four and a half lakhs in cash. In this incident, the police arrested seven robbers along with recovering 11 annas worth of gold ornaments and 70 heavy silver ornaments.

Last October 25, there was a robbery-style robbery at New Vision Medicine Point Pharmacy on Brahmapally Road in the city. 6 lakhs in cash along with about 28 lakhs of medicines were stolen. A case has been filed in the incident. Police are working to nab the accused.

Mymensingh District Intelligence Branch OC Safiqul Islam said that the DB has 12 cases of robbery. In all the cases, the accused and the looted goods have been recovered.

Mymensingh district police superintendent admitted the robbery. Machum Ahmed Bhuna said that those robbers are committing robberies in different parts of the country. They came to the discussion because of the arrest in the Mymensingh incident. There are dozens of cases against them. After escaping the loopholes of the law, after getting out of jail on bail, he is involved in robbery again.

The Superintendent of Police also said that if a criminal commits a crime, they are sent to jail for correction. But disappointingly, in most of the robbery cases in Mymensingh, during the interrogation of those arrested, they admitted that they planned the robbery while sitting in jail.
