An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with police at Bagaritola area in Monirampur Upazila of Jashore district yesterday (Friday). The deceased was identified as Nurul Haque Karu 52 son of Majed Gaji of Vojgati village of the upazila and was accused in at least ten robbery cases filed with different police stations. , our Jhenidah correspondent reports quoting police.
Md jashim uddin , officer in charge Kashobpur police station said that villagers arrested Nurul Haque and handed him over to police station during an Easybyke robbery in Chingrakhali area of Keshabpur upazila on Thursday evening. Nurul Haque was the accused in ten robbery and three arms cases. At interrogation, he gave information to police about his weapons and associates.
Later, a joint police team of Keshabpur and Manirampur police took him to Bagaritala area at 4.00 am. When Nurul Haque reached Begaitala area with police team the associates of Nurul Haque opened fire targeting a patrolling police team, who reached the spot around 4:00am, the OC said.
In self-defense, the law enforcers also shot fires triggering the “gunfight”, he died on the spot, official said. When the robbers fled the scene, police found Nurul Haque's body and recovered a shooter gun, one bullet and some sharp weapons from the spot, he said. Police rescued the body and sent it to Jashore general Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed with Kashobpur Police station.
