RMG workers stage demo for wage, arrears

Around three hundred ready-made garment (RMG) workers staged demonstration on Dhaka-aricha highway at Razfulbaria area in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, on Thursday demanding their arrears wages by taking place. Later, police rushed to the spot and dispersed workers from the road.

The workers are working at Versatile Attire Ltd, a ready-made garment factory of Shovapur area in Savar, and they claimed that the authority of the factory keep pending their salary for last 2 months.

Workers from the movement alleged, the authority of the factory keep did not pay salary for last 2 month, even though promising to pay in several date.

Md. Kabir Hossain, President of Jatiya Garments Sramik federation told The Bangladesh Post, “Around 3 hundred RMG workers work at the factory and all of their salary is pending. As a result, all workers are facing an extreme humanitarian crisis amid this unannounced lock-down following the corona virus spread in the country.”

The workers leader urged to factory authority to pay arrears wages immediately. Arif Hossain, Assistant Superintendent of Industrial police-1 told The Bangladesh Post, “We talked to the factory authority and they assured to pay workers wages in next April 28. Later, the workers go returned their home after getting assurance from the authority.”
