Agitated ready-made garment (RMG) workers again on Monday blocked the roads  in Mirpur area  in the capital Dhaka for the third consecutive day.

Local sources said the unruly workers blocked roads in Mirpur 10, 11 and Pallabi areas on Monday morning demanding an increase in salary and allowance amid the recent price hike of essentials.

Kamrul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Kafrul Police Station confirmed it.

Huge traffic jam was created in the area due to the road blockade, police said.

At one stage, law enforcers charged baton and fired tear shells to disperse the protesters.

The protestors also fought back by throwing brickbats but had to retreat to the alleys while the police took position on the main roads.

Inspector Kamrul told that several factory workers were protesting sporadically since the morning. They have been driven away from the road.

The workers claimed that their salary was not sufficient enough to run their families in recent times as the prices of daily necessities have gone up.

The protesters demanded that either their demand of salary hike be met or price hike of essential commodities reduced, they continued.

On Sunday, the workers reportedly vandalised a factory in  Mirpur area demanding pay hike.

On Saturday, thousands of workers blocked roads to protest against the price hike of daily essentials.

On Thursday, the workers had mounted another protest on the same demand.
