From now on, no patient admitted at RMCH will be required to go to the private clinics for any sort of testing, rather they will get all tests at the laboratories of the hospital at a low-cost, informed Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani, Director of RMCH.

Sources of RMCH informed, from Sunday (Aug-1), all sorts of tests of the admitted Covid-19 patients have been started at the hospital laboratories. Director Shamim Yazdani inaugurated the testing by giving his own blood at the laboratory.

He further said, the construction works of a Pathological laboratory infrastructure have been started inside the hospital and all patients of the hospital from now on will be able to conduct their tests at the labs at a low cost. The construction of the Pathological lab might be completed by September this year.

Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani during a press briefing at his conference room on Sunday morning said from now on no Covid patient will need to go out of the hospital for any tests. The tests like D-Dimer, D-Hydrogenes, CRP, Serum Ferritin will be conducted in the hospital labs. The private laboratories outside the hospital charge a lot of money to conduct the tests.

He further said, the government will charge Tk 600 for D-Dimer test, Tk 250 for Serum Ferritin test and Tk 150 for D-Hydrogenes and CRP tests. At the same time the patients at the ICU will be conducted three tests at a cost of Tk 600. Moreover, the Troponin IO test will also be conducted at Tk 500. A patient requires a huge amount of money to conduct the said tests from outside, he mentioned.

He further informed the tests of other patients will also be conducted at the hospital in four categories. These are-Indoor, Out door, One stop service and Cardiac Pathology. The construction work of a new outdoor pathology is nearing an end. The cardiac patients will no longer need to move outside the hospital for the purpose of testing. All tests will be conducted inside the hospital labs.

" Tests of all admitted patients will be conducted inside the hospital. Even the patients who will come to take treatment at the Outdoor will also get the facility to conduct any tests inside the hospital labs. Several samples collection points will be set up inside the hospital where the samples of the patients will be collected for testing. This will discourage the workers from outside diagnostic centres to enter into the hospital and to collect samples from the patients. He further mentioned, to the hospital authorities, the patients will be treated like the VIPs' An admitted patient will no longer need to move the bed as the carrying of a patient in a trolley is also hazardous, he added. The workers at the collection booth will visit the patients and collect the samples. Only for testing through CT Scan and MRI Machines, the patient will be needed to move'.

Shamim Yazdani informed, there are only 11 Technicians at the hospital. Of them five work at the Blood Bank and other six work at Pathology. It was not possible to run the Pathology with six technicians only  that is why some technicians will be hired through outsourcing and a limited service charge will be realised for the job. He hoped, there will be an abrupt change in the medicare system of RMCH if the plan can be implemented. This will decrease the sufferings of the patients and the menace of 'dalals' from private hospitals and the diagnostic centres will also be decreased.
