Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad has opened up about the disappointment of being overlooked for the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, the 38-year-old insists he has moved on and is focused on contributing to the team's campaign in the ongoing edition being held in the USA and the West Indies.

Mahmudullah, the most experienced member of the Tigers' squad, has been a mainstay in their T20 World Cup squads since the inaugural tournament in 2007. While teammate Shakib Al Hasan is on course for a record ninth World Cup appearance, Mahmudullah will be featuring in his eighth after missing the previous edition due to concerns over his form and fitness.

In a video interview titled "The Green Red Story" produced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Mahmudullah addressed his omission and his hopes for the current World Cup.

"It was naturally a bitter pill to swallow when I wasn't selected for the 2022 World Cup," he admitted. "I felt I could have contributed. However, I bear no grudges and, as always, I say 'Alhamdulillah' (praise be to God). Whatever I can offer the team, whether it's my presence, performance, or experience, I'll always strive to give my best."

Mahmudullah, a true cricketing warrior, has weathered numerous storms throughout his career. Dropped on several occasions, he has displayed remarkable resilience, returning stronger each time. His faith, he says, remains his guiding light through these challenges.
