Some rights-based organisations at a press conference called upon the authorities concerned to take steps for ensuring supply of adequate business inputs and materials for the poor street food vendors. They urged not to allow any shop on or at the side of drains, stop unhygienic street foods.
Democracy International, Rupantar and Welfare Efforts (WE) jointly arranged the press conference at the training centre of WE in Jhenidah town on Saturday morning. WE’s Jhenidah district advocacy committee president Aminur Rahman Tuku presided over the press conference. WE director Sharifa Khatun, Democracy International representative Rubaiyat Hasan, Rupantar representative Asim Ananda Das, advocacy committee member Suraiya Parvin Moli, Jhenidah press club president M Raihan, general secretary Mahmud Hasan Tipu, Bangladesh Post Roving Correspondent Delwar Kabir spoke there, among others.
The speakers called upon the authorities concerned to stop reuse of edible oil, provide registration to food vendors, arrange pure water for drinking and other purposes and maintain cleanness during selling the food items. It will help reduce the stomach diseases and as well as medical costs for the common consumers, especially, the minor students, they said.
