Rickshaws and scholarships drive hope in Faridpur Char area

In a significant boost for the underprivileged communities of the Char region, five rickshaws were distributed among destitute pullers and educational stipends were awarded to 23 students. This initiative was spearheaded by the Poor Welfare Organization (PWO), with financial backing from the Bangladesh NGO Foundation.

The distribution ceremony was held at the PWO's main office in Khalil Mondol's Hat, under the Sadar upazila, on Sunday noon. Israt Jahan, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Faridpur Sadar, graced the event as the chief guest and formally handed over the rickshaws and stipends.

The event was chaired by Freedom Fighter Samchuddin Ahmed, President of PWO's Executive Committee. Among others who addressed the gathering were PWO's Executive Director, Md. Hafizur Rahman Mondol; City Social Service Officer, Sujauddin Rashed; Executive Director of Pathkali Sangstha, Md. Bilayet Hossen; Executive Director of BFF, A N M Fazlul Hadi Sabbir; and Tuhinur Rahman Mondol, Chairman of Charmadhabdia Union Parishad.

The proceedings were conducted by PWO's Chief Accountant, Aslam Uddin.

Providing further details, the PWO Executive Director stated that this event was part of the "Youth Festival 2025" campaign, aimed at improving the lives of marginalised communities. With special grants from the Bangladesh NGO Foundation, PWO has now distributed a total of 25 rickshaws to poor pullers in the Char area in three phases, with this event marking the third distribution of five rickshaws.

In the education sector, 21 underprivileged but meritorious secondary-level students received stipends of BDT 4,000 each (BDT 1,000 per month for four months) funded by the NGO Foundation. Additionally, from its own funds, PWO provided two meritorious students pursuing higher education with BDT 12,000 each (BDT 3,000 per month for four months).
