The prices of rice, chicken, lemon and onion and other commodities saw an upward trend in the capital’s kitchen markets during the last week. However, the prices of eggs, potatoes and vegetables came down, while prices of edible oil, beef, mutton and other products remained unchanged.
Such price variation of essentials commodities was found after visiting different kitchen markets including Karwan Bazar.
In the rice market, it was found that BR-28 rice was selling at Tk 45 to Tk 48 per kg, Miniket at Tk 65, Nazirshail at Tk 65 to Tk 70 per kg, Swarna rice at Tk 48 per kg. Loose edible oil was selling at Tk 135 per liter. On the other hand, Sonali chicken was being sold at Tk 340 per kg, broiler at Tk 150 per kg and layer chicken at Tk 200 to Tk 190 per kg. A dozen red eggs was selling at Tk 85 with a reduction of Tk 5. One dozen of duck eggs was selling at Tk 150 while a dozen of local chicken eggs was being sold at Tk 200.
Prices of other products including beef, mutton and spices remained unchanged. Mutton was being sold at Tk 750 to Tk 800 per kg, and beef was selling at Tk 550 per kg.
In the fish market, pabda was being sold at Tk 800 per kg, a medium-sized one-kg boal at Tk 800 and a kg of artamim was sold at Tk 800 to Tk 1000. The price of medium size Rui-Katal was being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 500 per kg, Tengra at Tk 600 to Tk 800 per kg. However, fish sellers said that the price of fish had gone up by Tk 30 to Tk 50 per kg in a week.
In the vegetable market, it was found that the prices of almost all vegetables were increasing. The vendors explained that the winter vegetables season was over and summer vegetables have just started coming to the market.
For example, the price of one kg of new Shajne (drumstick) was Tk 200. The price of bitter gourd, parwal, brinjal and green chilli was Tk 60 to Tk 70 per kg. Carrots, papayas and sweet pumpkin slices were available within Tk 30. Bean was sold at Tk 50 per kg, turnip at Tk 30, okra at Tk 40 and tomato was sold at Tk 20.
Traders predict that arrival of new vegetables will take at least two more weeks to hit the markets, and then the price will start to decrease.
