Rezwana Choudhury Bannya awarded ‘Padma Shri’

Renowned Rabindra Sangeet genius Rezwana Choudhury Bannya was bestowed with India's prestigious Padma Shri award by President Draupadi Murmu in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Monday evening, April 22. The official Twitter handle of President Murmu highlighted the event, acknowledging the recipients.

Bannya's illustrious career and significant contributions to promoting Rabindra Sangeet, particularly in Bangladesh, were lauded during the ceremony. Notably, her rendition of "Vaishnav Jan To" in commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary was highlighted as a testament to her dedication to music and cultural exchange.

This year's Padma awards, conferred by the Government of India, recognized the exceptional achievements of individuals across various fields. Alongside Bannya's Padma Shri, five individuals received the Padma Vibhushan, the nation's second-highest civilian honor, while 17 individuals were honored with the Padma Bhushan, and 110 recipients were bestowed with the Padma Shri.

The presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah added to the significance of the occasion. The unveiling of the Padma awards list on the eve of the 75th Republic Day included Bannya among the distinguished recipients from Bangladesh and other nations, reflecting the spirit of cultural exchange and mutual appreciation between India and its neighbors.
