Research must benefit society & the state: CU VC Al-Forkan

Chittagong University (CU) Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan, has emphasized that research conducted at the university should meaningfully benefit society and the state.

He said that the Faculty of Biological Sciences is comparatively ahead in research and has made significant contributions to the university’s overall academic and research advancement. “We are not only teachers, but also researchers. Therefore, we must enhance our research activities. Research should not be conducted merely out of necessity, but in a way that truly benefits society and the state,”.

CU VC also stressed the importance of restoring academic excellence on campus, highlighting the crucial role of teachers in this regard. 

He urged faculty members to be more attentive to their academic responsibilities, including taking classes on time, conducting examinations promptly, evaluating answer scripts within schedule, and publishing results without delay.


He called for eliminating session backlogs, increasing focus on research, and encouraging students to engage in research activities.

CU VC Professor Al-Forkan made these remarks on Tuesday during an interactive meeting with teachers of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, held at the Business Administration Faculty auditorium of the university.

He also provided various suggestions and guidelines aimed at enhancing academic standards, research output, and overall development of the university.

CU VC said that teachers must remain accountable and committed to their respective departments and the university as a whole. “Only through collective effort and dedication can the university move forward,” he said.

The session was conducted by CU Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Mohammad Saiful Islam. Faculty members present at the meeting shared their opinions, suggestions, and discussed various challenges. Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Kibria, also spoke on the occasion.
