Repay the debt you owe to the community: BUET Pro VC

Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) has held an introductory meeting for Level-1/Term-1 freshers of the academic year 2021-22. The introductory meeting was held on Saturday 19 November 2022 in the afternoon at the Gymnasium Complex of Buet. About 1500 people including parents, students participated in it. Vice-Chancellor of BUET Prof Dr Satya Prasad Majumdar chief guest and vice-chancellor professor Dr Abdul Jabbar Khan was present as special guest.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Jabbar Khan in the speech of the special guest said to the new students, "The government will spend approximately 30 thousand taka on you every month. This money is people's money. So, balanced use of this money should be ensured. It should be returned by serving the people.'' Besides, Honorable Vice-Chancellor Dr Khan emphasized on the importance of reading literature and practicing culture for the students outside of the textbooks.

BUET Registrar Pro Dr Md Forkan Uddin presided over the introduction meeting, Director of Student Welfare Department, Pro Dr Md Mizanur Rahman. Professor Dr Abu Siddiq Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering gave a speech., Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Professor Dr. Kazi Deen Mohammad Khosru, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning Professor Dr Ishrat Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Professor Dr Md Ehsan and Dean of Science Faculty Professor Dr Jiban Poddar.

In the speech of the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Satya Prasad Majumder said to the new students, "Your parents have brought you up with great difficulty. They have to fulfill their expectations. Getting admission in BUET is not as easy as graduating from BUET. I have seen many who could not complete their graduation. So one should have strong determination towards studies. Use time. Make yourself Maintain good relations with teachers. Go abroad after finishing your studies, but you have to return home with higher education there. To serve the people of the country. The debt of the people of the country must be paid." Vice-Chancellor Dr Mazumder said that in giving recommendation letters to students going abroad for higher education, the condition of students' return to the country is included.

Heads of various departments of BUET, directors of institutes, offices and departments, provosts of halls, teachers among others were present on the occasion.
