Relatives flee hospital with body

A female patient suffering from fever and headache died at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital on Saturday morning. Suspecting her to be attacked with coronavirus, relatives of the patient escaped with the body from the hospital before the hospital authorities were able to collect samples of coronavirus from her body to be sent those to IEDCR for testing. 

The deceased was identified as Nipa Begum, 35, of Raipur village under Chandrapur union of Shariatpur sadar upazila. Munir Ahmed Khan, superintendent of the hospital informed, Nipa Begum was suffering from fever and headache and was admitted to the hospital on Saturday morning but after taking her to the ward, on duty nurses felt no pulse of her and informed the doctors. As a result, after testing, on duty doctors declared her dead.  

The hospital authorities took preparation to collect samples from her body to test if she was suffering from Coronavirus but before collecting the samples, relatives of the deceased managed  to escape with the dead body. hde said, the incident has been informed to the Palang Model police station and to his higher authorities.

Mahbur Rahman Sheikh, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Shariatpur informed, being directed from the Deputy Commissioner, he  along with the officer-in-charge of Palang police station went to the house of the deceased and collected samples from her body and sent that to IEDCR in Dhaka for testing. The inmates of the house and the surrounding houses have been put under home quarantine following the death of the patient.
