ICT adviser to the interim government Nahid Islam has stressed the need for restoring law and order, ensuring the people’s security and carrying out investigation into digital crackdown.
“Initially, we are trying our best to restore law and order in the country. People's security is our priority. They (police) have placed some demands. We are now trying to fulfill them quickly,” he said in an interview with media on Saturday.
“At the same time, students are in the field, emphasis is on how to use them in a more positive way. The injured are undergoing treatment. The work has started from today. We focus on these two things first,” said Nahid Islam who was sworn in as an adviser to the interim government on Friday.
In reply to a query about what he would like to carry out reform first, the adviser said, “During the time of quota reform movement, fascist Hasina has launched digital crackdown by shutting down internet during our movement. My first task will be to investigate into this crackdown. We are a digital generation. This is an era of information technology. There are a lot of criticism about ICT. I will do something new to overcome criticism.”
In reply to another question about how long the interim government will stay in power, Nahid said, “A timeframe has not yet been set. This government has come forward with some preparations through a movement. State reconstruction or reform is one of our goals. Without it, elections or anything else won't work. We'll go back to another place. We are preparing a proposal for this reorganization. We will set the time according to that work and discuss the issue with other political stakeholders.”
