Reduced price of the Dye Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer will save about Taka 62 crore of the farmers in Jhenidh every year. Abide reduction of the DAP, it will also reduce the haphazard use of Urea and Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) on the croplands, which will also save huge money, said the officials of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in Jhenidah.
Farmer Nazrul Islam Mandal of Dhaura village in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenidah when contacted during purchasing DAP from a local fertilizer vendor in the market, said the farmers like him will be benefitted much as they could apply the same as required for the crops. It will also reduce the haphazard use of Urea and TSP on the croplands.
Ananda Kumar Biswas, another farmer of Kotchandpur expressed the same opinion and said the reduced price of the DAP will directly reduce the production cost of the crops round the year.
Rasheedul Hasan Mia, a fertilize vendor at Shailkupa town in Jhenidah said the farmers were very glad to purchase the DAP at the re-fixed reduced rate. Some of the farmers have been purchasing additional sachets. According to the office of the deputy director of Jhenidah DAE, the farmers have been applying about 24 thousand tones of DAP every year. Considering the demand of the same, the government had sanctioned 23,695 tones for the current season so that the farmers could apply as per requirements of their lands in the district.
DAE deputy director in Jhenidah Kripangshu Sekhar Biswas when contacted for his comments of reduced price of DAP, said it will not only reduce the production cost of the farmers, but also reduce the use of unplanned use of other fertilizers like Urea and TSP when the farmers were using more and more expecting additional crops on the same plot. It was a threat to the soil as well as environment.
Saroj Kumar Nath, deputy commissioner also the convener of fertilizer, pesticides and seed monitoring cell when contacted, said they had ordered the fertilizer dealers of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) in six upazilas to ensue selling the DAP at the revised rate and not to harass them. Stern action will be taken against the dealers if they are found guilty, deputy commissioner warned.
