‘Reduce disaster risk, accelerate sustainable dev’

National Disaster Preparedness Day-2020 observed across the country

The National Disaster Preparedness Day-2020 was observed in the country on Tuesday with emphasis on expediting disaster preparedness programmes among the people and making them well equipped for lowering the risk of natural calamities.

In Bogura, the district administration organized a rally and discussion meeting supported by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief marking the National Disaster Preparedness Day in the district town on Tuesday, reports our Bogura Correspondent. 

The rally starting from the Deputy Commissioner’s office paraded various streets in the district town in the morning. Following the rally a discussion meeting was also held in the DC Office premises. 

Deputy Commissioner of Bogura Fayez Ahmed attended the programme as the chief guest while Additional Deputy Commissioner Ujjal Kumar Ghosh presided over it. 

Among others, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Azhar Ali, Assistant Director of Bogura Fire Service and Civil Defense Abdul Hamid, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Azizur Rahman and Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Riazul Silam Riaz were present at the time.

At the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that the current government is working to reduce the loss of lives and resources of people in disasters. We must raise awareness among people and prepare before the disaster comes. Only then, it will be possible to reduce the loss of resources in a disaster.

In Faridpur, the district administration brought out a colourful rally in Faridpur town in the morning marking the day, reports our Faridpur Correspondent. 

Later, a discussion was weld at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office with ADC (general) Rukshana Rahman in the chair. 

DC of Faridpur Atul Sarker attended the discussion as the chief guest, while it was attended, among others, by Assistant Director of Faridpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Md Nizam Uddin, district fisheries officer Md Monirul Islam and district primary education officer Touhidul Islam. 

After the discussion, a rehearsal programme was held on the premises of Faridpur Zila School. 

In Kishoreganj, the National Disaster Preparedness Day was observed in the district with a view to raising mass awareness about calamities. A colourful rally was brought out in the district town, reports our Kishoreganj Correspondent. 

Kishoreganj district administration, Fire Service and Civil Defence and others NGOs jointly chalked out elaborate programmes under the theme of "Preparation to reduce disaster risk will accelerate sustainable development". 

A discussion was held at Kishoreganj Collectorate’s conference room. District Relief and Rehabilation Officer Md Mokaram Hossain presided over district, while ADC (General) Abdullah-al-Mashud attended as the chief guest.

It was addressed, among others, by Executive Magistrate Mahamudul Hasan Parvez, Care Senior Manger Shafiqul Islam, NGO POPI Programme Officer A.N.M. Khalid, CAB General Secretary Monour Hossain Rony, and Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Deputy Director Md. Mobarok Ali. 

Later, prizes among the winners of a drawing competition on Disaster Preparedness were distributed.

In Pabna, the Santhia upazila administration observed the National Disaster Preparedness Day by holding rally and discussion at the upazila in Pabna, reports our Santhia Correspondent. 

The upazila administration brought out the rally at noon. Later, the discussion was held at conference room of the upazila parishad with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Santhia SM Jamal Ahmed in the chair. 

Chairman of Santhia Upazila Parishad Abdullah Al Mahmud Delwar attended the function as the chief guest, while it was attended, among others, by OC (investigation) of Santhia Police Station Aminul Islam and upazila project implementation officer  Abdullah Al Jabir. 

In Sunamganj, the day was observed by Sunamganj Municipality with the help of National Resilience Programme on Tuesday. A rally and discussion was held in the district town on this occasion, reports our Sunamganj Correspondent. 

Among others, Sunamganj Municipal Mayor Nader Bakht, Municipality Executive Engineer Meer Mosharraf Hossain and SDO Md. Nizam Uddin spoke at the programme. Later, a drill was held in the participation of 500 volunteers and Fire Service members of the town.
