Red Crescent helping flood victims in Ctg

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Chattogram district unit has been helping the flood-affected people in the district since August 22.

They have been continuing operations, including rescue of the marooned people, sending aged people and children to shelter centres, helping to send the cattle to the cyclone centres, raising awareness through loudspeaker, distributing dry foods, cooked foods, safe drinking water and water purifier tablets.

Youth volunteers of Red Crescent raised awareness, observed present operations and future planning in Mirsharai, Fatikchhari, Patia and Boalkhali Upazila of the district on Sunday.

Emergency response was given to a total of 800 people through the control room of Youth Red Crescent Chattogram district unit office. More than 1150 marooned people were rescued and sent to shelter centre by youth Red Crescent and volunteers in Mirsharai and Fatikchhari Upazila.

Dry food, safety items, safe drinking water and water purifier tablets were distributed to 1250 families of Mirsharai, Fatikchhari and Hathazari Upazila. Moreover, cooked foods were distributed to 2740 people. Acting Chairman of Red Crescent Chattogram district unit Fakhrul Islam Porag said the government is giving the highest priority to face the flood at this moment. We all have to face the situation. All of the society along with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society have to come forward. He also put emphasis on increasing the coordination regarding all operations, including rescue operation and relief distribution. Preparations need to be taken for the assistance after flood. So we all have to work together.
