Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), has expressed hope that the re-excavation work of river Buriganga will start from February next year.
The DSCC mayor shared this information while inspecting the site for construction of a bridge over the Buriganga in Loharpul area adjacent to Kamrangirchar of the city on Wednesday. The mayor said, “We will establish a central commercial zone in Kamrangirchar and hence we will have to build two bridges with future activities in mind to ensure our travel facilities so that its connection with the original Dhaka is ensured.
We hope to start re-excavation of the original Buriganga from next February. We have already started our activities for that purpose”
Part of the original Buriganga River has been vacated. From next week, it is expected that the Dhaka South City Corporation will conduct a joint operation and take up the part of the Buriganga that is still occupied, he added. “The activities are being carried out under the master plan including the river digging in Kamrangirchar, the construction of the bridge and converting the embankment road into six lanes” he said.
Earlier, the DSCC Mayor oversaw the waste removal activities from the area adjacent to the Secondary Transfer Station (STS), Dholaikhal Reservoir and Malitola Gardens for wards 71 and 72 of the city.
Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Sitwat Naeem, Chief Engineer Saleh Ahmed, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque, Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Fazle Shamsul Kabir, Regional Executive Officers of the concerned areas, councilors of the concerned wards, Chief Urban Planner Md Sirajul Islam, Additional Chief Engineer Md Zafar Ahmed, Supervising Engineer Md Ashikur Rahman, Md Khairul Baker, Munshi Md Abul Hashem and Kazi Md Borhan Uddin were present.
