RDRS Bangladesh, a non-governmental development organization, celebrated its anniversary in Cox’s Bazar with various programs and activities.
On this occasion, the day-long celebration began with a cake-cutting ceremony at the Cox’s Bazar District Office of RDRS Bangladesh, located in the Uttaran Residential Area of Cox’s Bazar town.
The anniversary program, held yesterday, included a discussion meeting along with other activities.
Speaking through a video conference at the beginning of the program, Executive Director of RDRS Bangladesh, Imrul Kayes Moniruzzaman, said that the day was a historic one for RDRS Bangladesh.
He noted that the organization began its journey in 1972 during the difficult post-war period of Bangladesh by standing beside the people of the northern region, and today it has stepped into its 54th year of success.
After completing 53 years, RDRS Bangladesh has become a partner in transforming the lives of nearly 4.5 million people across 33 districts of the country.
He stated that the modern communication revolution from Kurigram to Rangpur had its beginnings through the initiatives of RDRS. Through its 300 microcredit branches, the light of economic self-reliance is now reaching households across the country.
The organization’s eye hospital has become a symbol of trust for thousands of people. RDRS Bangladesh has always responded first to the call of humanity. In Cox’s Bazar, alongside improving the living standards and providing technical education for displaced Rohingya communities, the organization is equally engaged in the development of affected local populations. Its humanitarian support now extends from the hills to the plains.
In this challenging time of natural disasters and climate change, RDRS Bangladesh continues to stand beside marginalized communities. Through drought- and flood-resilient crops and the construction of disaster-resilient infrastructure, the organization is helping people learn how to fight and survive in the face of disasters.
He emphasized that this 54-year success is the result of the dedication of 3,500 committed staff members, the Board of Trustees, donor agencies, the government, and the millions of people who have placed their trust in RDRS Bangladesh.
Respecting the needs of the people, the organization aims to further empower local communities in the future by establishing a “Community Climate Fund.” Its clear goal is to build a poverty-free society based on equality and justice.
On this special day, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to every member of the RDRS family and its well-wishers, and called upon everyone to move forward together to build the Bangladesh of tomorrow.
At the Cox’s Bazar event, Project Manager Syeda Nure Nabila Tabassum, A.S.M. Shahriar Sakib, Sajida Tasnim, Shahidul Islam, and all officials of RDRS Bangladesh working in Cox’s Bazar were present.
