Nurses, doctors, employees of Rajshahi Christian Mission Hospital and local people of Chandipur area of Rajshahi city on Monday morning protested the move of Rajshahi City Corporation to construct a Secondary Transfer Station of trashes in front of the Hospital.
It is learnt, a temporary STS was in operation at the same spot of Chandipur for a long time. The cleaners of RCC store trash collected from the houses at that temporary STS all the day and those are carried through the vans of RCC to the garbage dump at City Hat area at night. Now, RCC is constructing a permanent STS which is being protested by the Mission Hospital insiders and the local people.
On Monday morning, labourers from RCC started to construct the STS when the doctors, nurses, staff of the hospital and local people intervened and stopped the workers to continue their work. However, being informed, the concerned contractor Mamun-ur-Rashid arrived at the spot and ordered the labourers to resume the work. Later on, police arrived at the spot and the labourers resumed their work.
Sangeeta Biswas, a student of the Nursing Institute of the Mission Hospital said, the dormitory of the nurses of the institute is situated in front of the STS. Due to obnoxious stench, they cannot open the windows of their rooms.
