Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has announced Tk 547 crore 18 lakh 12 thousand and 275 budget of RCC of 2019-'20 fiscal year. He announced the budget at a press conference at RCC Bhaban on Sunday noon.
The revenue earning and spending at the budget has been estimated to be equal.
Earlier, in 2018-'19 fiscal year, RCC had announced a budget of Tk 752 crore 37 lakh and 81 thousand. The current fiscal year's budget is Tk 205 crore less than that of last year's budget.
In this connection, the RCC Mayor said that only a 'showy' budget to the people will not work rather people need such a budget that can be implemented. It was a shame and disgraceful not to implement the budget even after announcing it with a huge amount of money. That is why this year's budget was precise and worthy of implementation.
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton further said, no new tax has been imposed in this year's budget. The budget is a development oriented budget. Emphasis has been given on the development of city roads and waste management. A special fund has also been allocated for city infrastructure development and maintenance. Special attention has also been given on resistance of Dengue and water-borne diseases, he mentioned.
He said that the budget will be implemented through eight working plans. The work plans include planned city development, improved waste management and environmental development, improvement of Public health, institutional abilities and development of work-power, modernisation of revenue management, an increase of civic services, transparency in official works, accountability and development of financial and asset management.
RCC Mayor envisioned his future development plans centering Rajshahi during the budget discussion. Panel Mayor-1 Shariful Islam Babu and councillors of various wards, women councillors of reserved wards were present during announcement of the budget.
