CNG driver arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Tuesday night arrested a CNG driver in connection with a gang rape of a minor girl in the capital.

He was identified as Md Selim, 38.

Addressing at a press conference, HM Azimul Haque, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Tejgaon Division confirmed the matter on Wednesday.

He said on March 14, the accused CNG driver became introduced with the minor girl and her two other sisters near Shia Mosque in city’s Adabar area.

When victim’s two sister left her, the alleged rapist and his friend cunningly took the victim inside a toilet near a local Leguna bus stand.

“At one stage, he and his friend raped the girl, leaving her fatally injured. Later she escaped the scene and described the incident to her family members.” HM Azimul Haque added.

She was brought to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital with critical condition and later transferred to the One Stop Crisis Center of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for the better treatment.

A case was filed with local Adabar Police Station in this connection. 

DC Azimul Haque said, after scrutinizing 23 CCTV footages, we identified the CNG driver. Later a team of Adabar Police nabbed him from Satarkol area under Badda Poice Station on Tuesday night.

During the primary interrogation, the arrested admitted that he raped the baby girl. He also disclosed the name of his another cohort who also raped the girl.

We are trying to arrest him also, the senior police officer added.

“We sent him before the court seeking seven days remand, however the court granted a two day remand. We will arrest another suspect rapist very soon,” said Inspector Momin Khan of Adabar Police Station.
