In connection with a rape case filed by the victim, Police arrested a UP chairman and the father of the rapist from Dhunat upazila of Bogura on Monday night. They were sent to the Bogura district jail through court on Tuesday. The arrestees were identified as UP chairman Azhar Ali Pikar, 60, of Bererbari village of Nimgachi union, and father of the rapist Fazlul Bari, 45, of the same village.
According to the case, Fazlul Bari’s son Mehedi Hasan, 18, raped a neighbor's teenage daughter who had refused his proposal of love affair, on May 15 in 2019. The girl and her mother went to UP chairman Azhar Ali Pikar to seek justice. However, the chairman instead of helping them tried to cover up the incident. Meanwhile, the victim became pregnant and gave birth to a baby at her home on February 19. Mehedi Hasan has been absconding since then.
