Rangpur divisional headquarters bldg to be inaugurated today

The first state-of-the-art Rangpur divisional headquarters of the country will be officially inaugurated today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate it through video conference at 10 am. The ten-storey building will have all the services of the departmental administration under one roof, officials said. 

They said that the construction of the divisional headquarters is part of the development promised by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the Rangpur division. 

Extensive preparations have been made at the divisional headquarters at Uttam Hazirhat in the city. A festive atmosphere is prevailing in the headquarters around the inauguration. The headquarters will be built in other divisions in the future in the style of this first divisional office of the country built in Rangpur.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan at a press conference held at noon on Saturday in the conference room of the departmental headquarters said that the ten-storey building, established on 15 acres of land, will house the offices of 11 divisional offices. 

Besides, various modern facilities including multipurpose hall room, 24-hour electricity system, fire-fighting system have been ensured at the headquarters. By doing this, the service recipients will get their desired service under the same roof in quick time, Additional Divisional Commissioner Abu Taher said. Masud Rana, Additional Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Abdul Gaffar, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan and other senior officials of the administration were present.

According to the Rangpur Divisional Administration and Public Works Department, the government gave administrative approval to the Rangpur Division on January 25, 2010. Six years after the approval, it was decided to build a ten-storey Rangpur divisional headquarters in 2016. 

To this end, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the 'Rangpur Divisional Headquarters' project at a cost of Taka 6 crore. In November 2016, the Department of Public Works started construction of Rangpur Divisional Headquarters on 15 acres of land along the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway at Uttam Hajirhat in the city. The construction work was completed in June 2021 during the project period.

The headquarters has a ten-storey building as well as a two-storey multipurpose hall room with 720 seats. The ten-storey building also has a library, archive room, meeting room, bank, post office, canteen, cafe corner, kitchen, security room, AC Land office, training and classrooms. The building also has transportation and firefighting facilities. The revised cost for the implementation of the project is estimated at Tk 92.45 crore. The Department of Public Works deposited the remaining Tk 2.5 crore in the state treasury after the construction of the building within the stipulated time while maintaining the quality standards.

Abdul Gaffar, Additional Chief Engineer, Department of Public Works, Rangpur, said, "We are happy to be able to construct this state-of-the-art building within the stipulated time. The work of the departmental administration will be further expedited after the Prime Minister inaugurates it.”

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan said that besides the building, the residence of the Divisional Commissioner and DIG, quarters for the officers and employees of the divisional headquarters, tennis ground, mosque and some other buildings will be constructed there.
