Rain continues to steal the headline in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as yesterday’s match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham between India and New Zealand has been washed out. Both teams shared one point each. This is the fourth match to have been abandoned due to rain, which is a record itself.

After the washout, New Zealand remain in their position with 7 points from 4 matches. India on the other hand, stand in third position with 5 points from 3 matches.

Soggy outfield and morning drizzle delayed the start of the match. A record four matches have now been either called off or abandoned in the rain-hit tournament with many questioning the absence of reserve days for group matches.

Earlier, the covers were removed after the rain stopped, with ground staff at Trent Bridge worked hard to dry the playing surface. Match officials inspected the ground many times when rain stopped but the rain was coming back and forth. Rain started to come down heavily and the covers came back on.

Tournament organizers have faced criticism after two washouts and one no result, forcing teams to share one point each.

Bangladesh coach Steve Rhodes earlier said: "We put men on the moon, so why can't we have a reserve day? After their fixture against Sri Lanka in Bristol was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

International Cricket Council chief executive David Richardson said factoring in a reserve day for every match would be "extremely complex to deliver".

Both New Zealand and India came into this match with unbeaten record. New Zealand, who won all three matches they have played so far, and twice champions India, playing their third, are the only two unbeaten teams in the tournament.

The Kiwis started their World Cup campaign beating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. After that, they beat Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

India also made a flying start by beating South Africa, and in the second game, they defeated defending champions Australia.
