Minu Rani Saha (50), a passenger on the Karnaphuli Express train from Cumilla to her father's house in Laksam fell ill on Monday after falling ill in the clutches of Molom Party and lost a gold chain, two gold rings, and cash taka.
When the train stopped at Laksam railway station, Minu found Rani Saha unconscious and took her to Upazila Health Complex for treatment with the help of Laksam Railway Thana police. Chattogram Railway Superintendent of Police Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury gave detailed information about the arrest of Molom Party from the railway station on Thursday.
He said that the victim Minu Rani Saha sent to Laksam Upazila Health Complex got better after treatment on Tuesday, she told the Laksam Railway Police Station about the incident in detail. Pursuant to that direction, Mala Begum alias Maya was found loitering at the south end of Platform No. 3 of Laksam Railway Station and cash was recovered from her along with 2 gold rings stolen from victim.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused Mala Begum alias Maya admitted that she and her husband Shafiqul Islam Prakash Shafiq (53) stole these items by administering anaesthetic to the victim Minu Rani Saha. Accused Mala Begum alias Maya and her fugitive husband Shafiqul Islam Prakash Shafiq filed a written statement against Laksam Railway Police Station.
Last Wednesday, the investigating officer of the case, SI Mohammad Amjad Ali Chowdhury and his forces conducted a special operation from Chatipatti area under Cumilla Kotwali police station and arrested the absconding accused Shafiqul Islam Prakash Shafiq (53) and took him into police custody and recovered Minu Rani Saha's gold chain from his custody. Chattogram Railway Police Superintendent Mohammad Hashan said, this molam party has been stealing everything from the passengers from various railway stations for more than five years. In order to be aware of unconscious parties and molam parties, railway police members always miked the train at different stations and advised not to eat anything from strangers. Public awareness activities of Railway Police are continuing to be aware of Molam Party.
