Renowned Pakistani musician Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will headline a charity concert, Echoes of Revolution, at Dhaka’s Army Stadium on December 21. The event, organized by the platform Spirits of July in collaboration with the Shaheed July Smrity Foundation, aims to raise funds for families of martyrs and injured individuals from the July uprising.
The concert will feature a mix of musical performances by bands Artcell, Chirkutt, Ashes, Aftermath, and rap artists Sezan and Hannan. The initiative is supported by Prime Bank.
Organisers shared the details during a press conference at Dhaka University’s Madhu’s canteen on 30 November.
“To show solidarity with the affected families, we are organizing this concert. All proceeds will go to the Shaheed July Smrity Foundation,” said a written statement read by DU students Hasan Mahmud Rizvi, Sadekur Rahman Sunny, Md Jafor Ali, and Wahid-Uz-Zaman.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Spirits of July and the foundation on 12 November. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan signed the contract on 28 November and has graciously agreed to perform without charge.
The funds generated through ticket sales will directly support the cause. An advisory board comprising Dhaka University faculty members and prominent figures will oversee the financial matters for transparency.
Members include Dr Mahfujul Hoque Supan, Dr Ansarul Alam, and Mohammad Mahbub Kaiser.
Apart from musical performances, the event will feature a graffiti exhibition reflecting the July Revolution and an instalment of the Mugdha Water Zone.
Tickets, with three pricing categories, will go on sale in early December. Prices are yet to be announced.
This concert is a significant effort to support the affected families and honor the sacrifices made during the July uprising.
