Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) has received two high-quality neonatal ventilators, manufactured in the United States, from Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited to enhance advanced treatment facilities for newborns.

The ventilators were formally handed over through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday. Health Services Division Secretary Kamruzzaman Chowdhury and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Prof Prabhat Chandra Biswas officially delivered the equipment to hospital authorities. RMCH Director Brig Gen PKM Masud Ul Islam was present at the program.

Nasrullah, a director of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited, said the company plans to provide a total of 10 ventilators to the ministry in phases. Of these, two have been delivered to RMCH, while the remaining units are currently in the import process.

The initiative comes in the wake of recent incidents of infant deaths at RMCH due to a shortage of ventilators, an issue that drew the attention of Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain, prompting swift action.

Following a visit to the hospital, Secretary Kamruzzaman Chowdhury said that although the infrastructure for a children’s hospital in Rajshahi is ready, it has yet to be launched due to a lack of necessary facilities. He added that outpatient services for children will be introduced there soon, with plans to gradually develop it into a full-fledged children’s hospital.
