The RAB has found a weapons manufacturing factory after raiding an area for more than 16 hours in Eidgarh of Ramu Upazila in Cox's Bazar.
4 people were arrested at the scene along with several weapons and tools.
However, Maniul Haque, the owner of the factory and the chief weapons maker, fled after sensing the raid.
RAB-15 Battalion Commander Lt. Col. HM Sajjad Hossain said that this weapons factory was found in Chagirakata Tulatali Hill of Eidgarh Union of upazila early on Wednesday.
The arrested arms makers are Zafar Alam, Lal Mia, Main Uddin and Shahab Uddin.
Sajjad Hossain said an organized gang had been making weapons by building a factory in Eidgarh hill of Ramu upazila for a long time.
Around 3 pm on Tuesday, a 400-strong team of RAB launched an operation in search of the arms factory based on a tip-off. At one point, around 5 am on Wednesday morning, RAB found an arms manufacturing factory in the hill of Tulatli area of Chagirakata of Eidgarh Union. At that time, they were able to arrest two workers who were staying in the factory. Later two more arms makers were arrested from their residence based on their confession.
“During the operation, 10 country made guns of various types, 10 rifle cartridges, 12 cartridges and a large quantity of various types of weapons-making materials were recovered from the spot. "
The RAB officer said, "The detainees said in their initial confession that they had been selling weapons made by building a prison in the mountains to various criminals for a long time. As the area is a remote hilly area, their misdeeds were beyond the vigilance of the law enforcement agencies.
Detainees provided information about several others associated with the unearthed factory. "
Sajjad Hossain said that there is also information about the presence of several other weapons manufacturing factories in Goheen.
He said that preparations are underway to file a case against the detainees at Ramu police station.
