RAB busts carjackers syndicate

Rapid Action Battalion on Friday arrested five car hijack from city’s outskirts Narayanganj.

The arrested are identified as ring leader Azim Uddin and his close aids Omar Faruk, Rafique Ullah, Md Selim and Kamrul Hasan, all hailing from Noakhali district.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director CommanderKhandaker Al Moin at a press conference on Saturday disclosed it.

There are around 15 to 20 members in the group. They are active in Narayanganj, Savar, Gazipurand on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, said RAB.

During the raid at Narayanganj, the RAB personnel sized three pick-up vans, an auto-rickshaw, a pistol, one bullet, and four sharp weapons from their possessions.

The carjacking syndicate so far hijacked more than 100 vehicles in the last four to five years.

They work in separate group. First team carries out a recce to selected vehicles. Another team hijack or steal the targeted cars in association with members with technical expertise.

Sometimes they also communicate with the car owners and handed those after taking money.

RAB officials said the carjackers sometimes changed colour of the vehicles in different workshops .They in some case dismantle the vehicles to sell the parts.
