RAB-7 Commander Lieutenant Colonel MA Yusuf said that the master craftsman Zakir Hossain has been arrested along with a large quantity of weapons making equipment and 10 weapons. He said these things during the afternoon press briefing at Chandgaon camp.
He said that on the basis of secret information, some people are making and selling illegal drugs and domestic weapons inside the tin house of Abdur Rahman in Natunpara area under Banshkhali police station of Chattogram district.
A team of RAB-7 conducted an operation and arrested the accused Zakir Hossain (50), son fo Maulvi Nurul Huda, from the Jungle Chambal area of Banskhali police station on Wednesday afternoon. The accused were arrested after recovering 8 country-made one-shot guns, 2 pistols and various weapons-making tools from a white plastic bag inside the tin house.
For a long time, setting up weapons factories in Chambal area and selling these weapons to local pirates, drug dealers and dacoit gang members. The area is a remote mountainous area and the sight of a stranger makes the members of the syndicate involved in the manufacture of these weapons alert.
RAB-7 led the raid and managed to arrest a key artisan with 10 manufactured weapons along with weapons making equipment from a tin house. Arms are priced between 10-30 thousand rupees and small one-shooter guns take 5-6 days to manufacture. The arrested Zakir has been involved in this profession for 7-8 years. He often worked in agriculture to avoid the attention of everyone including the law and order forces.
He said, it took them at least 5-15 days to prepare a weapon depending on the type of weapon. They used to collect the raw materials for making weapons from various local workshops and bring them to this rented house. As the main raw material they used to buy pipes and iron pieces of various sizes. Later, through their expertise, they were able to manufacture all the weapon parts in this factory. To make various parts of a weapon, they recovered all the necessary tools from the factory including grinder machine, welding machine, drill machine, hammer, rod cutter, battal. Electrical connection was brought from another house through wires to make the machine.
The arrested accused and recovered weapons were handed over to the concerned police stations for legal action.
