We express our deep concern over the authorities’ failure to stop frequent test question paper leaks in government job recruitment process. Such criminal offence is very “unfortunate” for a nation as the question paper leaks destroy the hopes and futures of brilliant and qualified job seekers.
Plainclothes police and National Security Intelligence (NSI) in a joint drive have arrested five officials of state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines for their suspected involvement in leaking the question of a recruitment test of the national carrier. Some high ups of Biman played the key role in recruitment test question leak that forced the authorities to suspend the examinations on Friday afternoon.
The members of the law enforcement agencies recovered soft and hard copies of the question, bank cheques, stamped documents, four diaries, admit cards of the examinees, mobile phone sets and cash from the arrestees during the drive. According to DB, the one-hour long recruitment test of Biman was scheduled to be held on Friday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. On Thursday night, detectives came to learn that the question of the test has been leaked.
After identifying the people involved, the detectives started a drive and recovered a total of 100 leaked questions from their possessions. They collected the original question through working with Biman high-ups responsible for preparing, printing and storing questions and sold it to the job seekers through Whatsapp.

The culprits collected hefty amount of money ranging from Tk 200,000 to Tk 700,000 per question. They even collected signatures on non-judicial stamps to embezzle lands from the job seekers. The arrestees also admitted that they have been involved in leaking questions for a long time with the help of their high ups.
The law enforcers will have to arrest the Biman high-ups who are the main players in leaking the question of a recruitment test of the national carrier. The question paper leak continued to take place at many government jobs’ recruitment test alongside other public examinations. Although the law enforcers detained many people in connection with the question leaks in government job recruitment tests and other public examinations, the big fishes always remain untouched. As a result, the qualified and talented youths having higher educational qualifications from different prestigious universities are failing to get job while a section of unskilled and dishonest people are getting employed in exchange of huge amount of bribe money. When these unskilled and dishonest people will be employed in government jobs, they will also be involved in corruption, misappropriation of money and misuse of power instead of providing services to people.
The authorities concerned must take stern measures to check question paper leakage in the in government job recruitment process. Alongside taking strong security measures, the government will also have to develop some innovative systems including introduction of lottery to choose question sets and special security envelope so that the question papers are not leaked.
