Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said BNP is indiscriminately blaming the government over the coronavirus (Covid-19) situation without raising awareness among the people in maintaining the health guidelines.

He made the comment at a press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence in the Capital. Reports BSS.

“I want to know from those making criticisms only for the sake of criticism – if the government has mismanagement, how the number of daily infection declined to below 600 from 8,000 and deaths from 112 to below 40,” he said.

Quader urged all to play a responsible role in maintaining heath guidelines as there is no way to think that the Covid-19 would vanish very quickly.

Mentioning that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had earlier demanded imposing a strict lockdown, the minister said when the government enforced ‘lockdown’ (restrictions on movement) or general holiday considering the overall situation, BNP opposed it strategically.

He said BNP also spread misleading information about vaccine to discourage the people in receiving vaccine but their evil attempts failed.

Quader said BNP is using different terms like ‘shutdown’ or ‘crackdown’ to undermine the government’s measures. When safeguarding people’s life and living is the foremost priority, they (BNP) are continuing their evil politics, he added.

The AL general secretary said: “Opposing everything has become BNP’s habit”.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s measures in containing the coronavirus situation has been lauded by the United Nations, World Health Organization, World Economic Forum, world renowned weekly newspaper The Economist and US-based magazine Forbes.

But BNP is spreading continuous falsehood and propaganda against the government without appreciating its achievements.

The AL general secretary said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is running the government very efficiently and successfully and her party has also attained the people’s trust.

He said the government is accelerating the wheels of development and progress to take ahead the country with the support of the people.

Mentioning that the government has no foreign lord rather it has true foreign friends, Quader said, the premier has already shown her diplomatic charisma by creating a distinct position in the international arena.
