Purbachal a future gigacity

The city will boast modern techs

The government recently has taken an initiative to turn Purbachal into a new modern city fully equipped with state-of-the-art advanced technology by 2023 at a cost of Tk 30,000 crore.

For this, Bangladesh Telecommunication Company (BTCL) is adding information technology in all kinds of transformations of the city named 'Giga City'.

Residents of Purbachal will get all kinds of IT facilities in the technology world.

According to BTCL sources, the government wants to complete the construction work of Purbachal Giga City by 2023. The initial expenditure has been estimated at around Tk 30,000 crore.

AKM Habibur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director (Planning and Development) of BTCL, the Giga city implementing agency, told Bangladesh Post that the latest technology in the world will be intalled in Purbachal to build a smart city. Every home will have high-speed broadband internet connection and telephone connection.

He said, “In today’s world, mayors attach importance to technological infrastructure to build a modern city. We will also install such technology in Purbachal. The residents of this Giga City will get all the modern facilities.

He mentioned that the only home-to-home connection in Purbachal Giga City will also have triple-play (voice, internet and cable network connection).

According to BTCL sources, the Giga City Implementation Committee visited the project area on 5 November 2019 and prepared a feasibility report.

According to the report, Giga City will have an area of 6,150 acres. It will be divided into 30 sectors, big and small.

The number of residential plots of different sizes will be 26,000. The high-rise buildings on these plots will have 62,000 flats. 1.5 million people will live in it.

Every building in this city will have fiber optic connection while residents of the buildings will be able to use broadband internet.

At present, if you contact the concerned company to get a broadband connection in any building, they will come and connect. However, every building in Giga City will have internet connections like electricity, water, and cable network connection. It can be used immediately if desired.

According to BTCL, Giga City will have 1,00,000 PSTN (landphone) connections. There will be the latest GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network).

A total of 100 Gbps bandwidth will be installed in this city. So that will include voice, internet, FTTX etc. There will be pop access at various points in the area.

On the other hand, Giga City will have 20 million routers and high-end switches for uninterrupted internet service.

BTCL is setting up two cables for Purbachal Giga City. One will go to Kuril Biswaroad from Magbazar of the capital and, the other will go to Kuril Biswaroad in Purbachal project area. BTCL will only cover 41 kilometers. Of this, 30 km will be optical fiber for the Giga City.

Apart from this, it also will be established for protection and restoration in Gazipur and Narayanganj. As a result, BTCL will have to cover 71 km.

According to RAJUK engineering department, the main objective of Purbachal project was to build a self-sufficient new city with all kinds of modern facilities next to the capital city.

An areas of 6,277.36 acres of land was acquired under the project. Of this, Narayanganj has 4,577.36 acres and Gazipur has 1,500 acres, which is divided into 30 sectors.

The remaining 150 acres of land have been used for construction of Kuril flyover and link road at Khilkhet police station in Dhaka district.

The project will have a total of 27,171 plots of different sizes and 62,000 apartments.

Not only that, around this project, the construction of 12.50 kilometers of Expressway from Kuril Flyover Point to Kanchan Bridge is costing Tk 14,000 crore. It will be one of the most beautiful and attractive expressways in Southeast Asia.

ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, Chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and additional secretary to the government, said, “We will complete the project by next December. First we want to finish the road works. So that people can move.”
