Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC) Md Sohrab Hossain, along with its 12 members, has submitted their resignation letters.
Sohrab handed over his resignation letter to the PSC secretary on Tuesday afternoon, said Matiur Rahman, the public relations officer of the PSC.
This resignation follows comments made by Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, regarding the need for PSC reforms.
He emphasised that recruitment exams for job candidates should begin this week and stressed that the priorities of the youth leading the uprising should not be forgotten.
Sohrab Hossain was appointed as the PSC chairman on September 16, 2020.
An officer from the 1984 batch of the BCS administration cadre, Sohrab has held significant positions, including secretary of the Ministry of Education and rector of the BCS Administration Academy.
Alleagtions were rife over leaking questions for the examinations held under the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC). The Criminal Investigation Department recently detained 17 people, including Syed Abed Ali and his son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam over allegations of leaking questions held under the BPSC.
The other arrestees were - PSC's Deputy Directors Abu Zafar, Jahangir Alam, Assistant Director Alamgir Kabir, Dispatch Rider Khalilur Rahman, Office Assistant Sajedul Islam, Auditor Priyanath Roy, Noman Siddiqui, Abu Solaiman Md Sohel, Zahidul Islam, Mamunur Rashid, Sakhawat Hossain, Sayem Hossain, Liton Sarkar, Narayanganj Regional Passport Office Security Officer Shahadat Hossain and Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital Medical Technician Niamun Hasan.
A private television channel aired an investigation report uncovering the the scandal involving leaked question papers for 30 recruitment exams, including the BCS.
According to the report, a syndicate of six officials and employees of the PSC had been involved in leaking exam questions for a long time.
Syed Abed Ali was a driver of the PSC chairman while his son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam was the Relief and Disaster Management Secretary of the Chhatra League's Dhaka North unit.
Despite being a driver, Abed Ali, a resident of Dasar Upazila in Madaripur district, has amassed properties worth millions, according to the report.
