Henceforth, all the teachers in government primary schools will get salary in the 13th grade, according to an office notification issued by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Wednesday .
According to the order, the academic fitness of the teachers who were recruited before the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Act-2019 was enacted and are still working has to be ratified. In this case, however, the educational qualifications have been relaxed. Following this order, all teachers will be given salary in 13th grade (Tk 11,000-26,590).
Last year in February, it was decided to upgrade the salary of trained and untrained assistant teachers in government primary schools to 13th grade. At the same time, it was also decided to set the salary of both trained and untrained headteachers to 11th grade.
Up till then, trained headteachers were getting salary in 11th grade and untrained ones were getting salary in 12th grade. On the other hand, trained assistant teachers were getting salary in 14th grade and untrained teachers in 15th grade.
But due to the changed recruitment rules and qualifications, there is a complication in determining the salary. Numerous teachers were going to be deprived of this rule, because the educational qualifications that were needed before the recruitment rules of 2019, were later raised. This caused a fit of rage among the teachers.
Now, in accordance with the previous recruitment rules, an order has been issued to give the benefit of salary grade-13 to those who have been appointed teachers in government primary schools, irrespective of their educational qualifications. Hence, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and teachers believe that the long-standing complication has been resolved.
