Villagers of Gobindohuda in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district formed a human chain on March 16 in front of Chuadanga Press Club in the town in protest against cutting the top soil of cultivable lands at Golaidary Madh and Chandamary Math of the village.
Mostak Ahmmed of the village said Abu Sayeed, a member of Damurhuda Union Parishad has been collecting top soil of the areas illegally for selling since long. The villagers have complained to the UNO of Damurhuda. The villagers also alleged that he drugged a pond at the crop cultivable areas of the village. He is grabbing the lands of the area and drugging ponds for collecting sands.
SM Monim Linkon, UNO of Damurhuda said Abu Sayeed was fined tk. 50000 by a mobile court over a complaint of villagers. Now he has started again to lift top soil and sands by digging pond.
He also said drastic action will be taken against him very soon for stopping cutting top soil of lands at the village of Gobindahuda.
