A project to build a dyke on Meghna riverbank to stop the river erosion at Dhorabhanga, Muktarampur, Nurzahanpur and Sonabalua villages was inaugurated at Nabingar upazila in Brahmnabaria.  Md Ebadul Karim Bulbul, MP from Brahmanbaria-5 constituency, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of the project on Friday.

Supervisor Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board Md Jahirul Islam, former director general of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training Mahbubur Rahman, upazila chairman Moniruzzaman Monir, mayor Advocate Shib Shanker Dad, chairman of Barkandi Union Parishad Md Anwar Parvez Harut were present at the time, among others.

ECNEC passed the project last year. The dyke will be built from Barikandi of Nabinagar upazila to MP Tila at the cost about Tk 7.10 crore. The project work will be completed in July, said sources.

People living alongside the river are happy over inauguration of the project. Many people had lost their houses and cattle several times and got completely ruined.  The people of the area hoped the project work would be completed in the stipulated time.
