The Bengal Association in Chennai on Saturday felicitated Bangladesh’s liver specialist Prof Mamun Al Mahtab Shwapnil for his contribution in medical as well as social services.
The Bengal Association is a 95-year old platform of Bengalis living in Chennai. It is the main organisation for Bengali language and culture in Tamil Nadu. They organised Tamil Nadu's famous ‘Pongal festival’ and ‘Bengali Paush Parvan’ together.
Prof Shwapnil is the chief of the interventional hepatology division of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. He is also the member secretary of Sampriti Bangladesh that promotes secularism.
The Bengal Association also gave special honors to prominent Bangladeshi poet Pulak Kanti Dhar, president of Vishwa Kavi Manch, during the event.
