Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Sarder of the Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).
He succeeds Prof Dr AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics.
The appointment was confirmed in a notification issued by the General Universities Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education on Tuesday (8 September).
Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Sarder is a distinguished researcher. He recently received the National Fisheries Award 2026 (Gold Medal) in recognition of his significant contributions to fisheries research and science. He has been serving as president of the BAU Teachers’ Association since 2024 and was appointed as the Student Affairs Adviser of the university on 20 August. #EK
