The publication of the book 'History of Chattogram - a self-reflective account' written by prominent researcher and writer Professor Nazim Uddin, published by Kharimati was launched. At the same time, prizes were distributed among the winners of the research essay competition.
The book was launched and prizes of research essay competition were distributed at a function at the city's Theater Institute on Saturday morning.
Ekushey Padak recipient and Dainik Azadi Editor MA Malek was the chief guest at the function.
The event were present by Kharimati Publisher Monirul Monir, CRC founder and writer Professor Nazim Uddin, CU History Department Professor Anwar Islam, Halda researcher and CU Zoology Department Prof. Dr. Md. Professor Manjurul Kibria, Government Women's College Principal Professor Helali, poet and playwright Abhik Osman, and teachers, journalists, researchers, and students of various educational institutions.
MA Malek said that this publication of Chattogram 's history, research, and cultural studies will be an important milestone. This research work by Professor Nazim Uddin reminds us of the history of Chittagong. Hard work, research, and commitment are essential to go deep into history.
He said that time is precious. We should utilize every moment—no matter how many obstacles we face, nothing is impossible. Therefore, Chittagong is a unique region not only geographically, but also culturally and politically. Such work will inspire young people to know about their roots. We should read books. Because there is no end to knowledge. Books are tools of knowledge.
MA Malek said, there is no word like impossible for our youth. If everyone works forward, everything is possible. Someone or something has to start. Because what the youth can do is not possible for anyone else. There is nothing that is impossible for humans.
He said, if Azadi wanted, I could have started a national newspaper. But my father loved Chittagong. That is why Azadi is still trying its best to highlight Chattogram.
Professor Nazim Uddin said, the publication of this new book and the distribution of awards for the research essay competition is a special moment for our Chittagong Research Center. Since the establishment of this center, our goal has been to explore the history, heritage, culture and language of Chattogram in depth, and to encourage research and thought practice among the young generation.
He said, history is not just a document - it is also the story of people's lives, experiences, languages and struggles. In this book, I have attempted to reconstruct the history of Chattogram in its linguistic, political, genetic, and geographical context.”
Professor Kibria said, the way the history and evolution of the Halda River is presented in this book is extraordinary. The author has woven together the geological, political and social history of Halda—which is a unique addition to the Halda research.
Professor Helali said, the curious and inquisitive mindset of the author Nazim Uddin is reflected in every chapter of the book. His family tradition and personal research have highlighted the history of Chattogram from a human perspective.
Kharimati Publisher Monirul Monir said, the book is an interesting combination of history, living testimonies and life stories—a unique creation. The author Nazim Uddin has presented the history of Chattogram from a new perspective. Gratitude was also expressed to Kamrul Hasan Shipu, who played an important role in the preparation of the book publication and organizing the event.
Professor Nazim Uddin said, We want the young generation to know, think and ask questions about their land, history and culture. With that aim, the research essay competition has been organized, Where 170 students from school and college levels participated. This is our prayer that Chattogram may become more aware, proud, and vibrant in the light of its history.
