Prof Mahfuzul new VC of BDU

The government has appointed a new vice chancellor in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University.

The Ministry of Education has issued a notification appointing Dr Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology-BUET to this post.

This information was informed in a notification signed by Rokhshana Begum, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday.

It is said in the notification, according to Section 11 (1) of the Digital University Bangladesh Act, 2016, Professor Dr Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam (Computer Science and Engineering Department, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology-BUET) has been appointed as Vice Chancellor (VC) of Digital University for 4 (four) years. Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam was born in Jamalpur in 1973. He is a Bangladeshi computer engineer and educator.

Before this, Professor Dr Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam served as the Vice-Chancellor of Canadian University of Bangladesh, a private university located in Dhaka.

Professor Dr Mahfuzul Islam received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He received his PhD from Monash University, Australia.

 Apart from teaching, he is the Provost of Shaheed Smriti Hall of BUET, Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Independent Director of Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO) Limited, President of Computer Engineering Department of Bangladesh Computer Society, Chairman of Computer Engineering Division of Engineers Institution of Bangladesh (IEB). Did the duty.

He has made significant contributions to the ICT sector of Bangladesh including National Identity Card and MRP. He is also serving as a member of various professional organizations.
