Probe report submission deadline extended for 109th time

A Dhaka court on Tuesday set 16 May for submitting the probe report in the sensational murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

With this, the deadline for submission of the probe report in the case was deferred for the 109th time, said court sources. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubul Haque passed the order.

Earlier, RAB Additional Superintendent of Police Khondoker Md Shafiqul Alam, also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit the report on Tuesday.

In March 2021, the RAB submitted a progress report in the case in affidavit form to the Attorney General's Office. According to the report, two unidentified people were involved in the murder. On 11 February in 2012,Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were found dead at their rented apartment  at West Rajabazar area of the capital Dhaka.

Nousher Ali Roman, brother of Runi, filed a case with Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station on the following day.

On 1 October in 2012, police arrested Tanvir in connection with the murder case. Later, he secured bail in 2014.

Law enforcers have, so far, arrested eight people, including Tanvir, in connection with the murder case.

The seven other suspects are Quamrul Hasan alias Arun, security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir, Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Abu Syed, Mintu alias Baggira Mintu alias Masum Mintu and Palash Rudra Pal.
