A Dhaka court has accepted a case against Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman GM Quader, party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu, and former DB chief Harun-or-Rashid, along with seven others, over allegations of nomination trade, extortion, and robbery.

On Monday (May 26), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia accepted the complaint and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate and submit a report.

The case was filed on May 17 by Nazmin Sultana Tuli, a former JP central committee member and human rights activist. Her lawyer, ADM Zobayer, confirmed that after recording the complainant’s statement, the court had kept the order pending for May 26 and issued the investigation order accordingly.

According to the complaint, the accused were allegedly involved in

a nomination trade scam during the 2024 dummy election, demanding Tk 50 lakh from Nazmin Sultana in exchange for a nomination, which led to internal conflict when she protested in a central committee meeting.

The complaint also states that on October 10, 2023, around 8:30 PM, 40 to 50 unidentified individuals aided by former corrupt police officials, broke into her residence, looted furniture, 7 bhori of gold jewelry, Tk 365,000 in cash, documents, mobile phones, and a laptop. She later received death threats when she tried to organize a press conference about the incident.

Nazmin Sultana stated, “Even after the fall of the Awami League  government, these individuals are still trying to regain power. I’ve suffered trauma and social disgrace for long. I demand exemplary punishment for those who corrupted politics.”
