‘Prepare for facing climate change challanges’

Speakers at a two-day long 'Youth Climate Conference' in Rajshahi have emphasized taking all sorts of preparations to face the imminent challenges of the adverse climate change impact. 

The climate experts at the conference mentioned that there is no way to escape from the adverse impact of climate change and the crisis will intensify in the days ahead. That is why all sorts of preparations should be taken to face the challenges otherwise innumerous people across the world will suffer from this impact.

Research Organisations Bangladesh Resource Centre for Indegenous Knowledge (BRCIK) and Barendra Jubo Sangathan Forum organised the conference at District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

With the slogan' Pledges of compensation is the justice for climate' many youngmen and women from various places of the district are attending the conference. Crops and handicrafts produced in various regions of Barind region, river plain region, Haor region and sea shore region are being exhibited at the conference venue.

Former President of Muktijoddha Sangsad under Rajshahi city Dr Abdul Mannan inaugurated the conference by hoisting the national flag. He said a worldwide damage is being done due to the impact of climate change. Through such conferences, the youths will be able to highlight the damages in various global forums. 

Professor Dr Golam Mosrtafa of the Institute of Environment of Rajshahi University at the conference said due to extraction of Carbon by the developed countries, all the countries of the world are facing huge loss. The global temperature is increasing and there is less possibility to decrease the temperature now. Due to the increase of the temperature, the ice of the Himalayan region will melt and the height of the sea level will also increase. As a result, low lying areas of the sea shore will be flooded. The agricultural land will turn saline and many people will turn unemployed. It is high time to explore the possibility of rehabilitating those unemployed people and we should take preparation and train people for that reason now.

River and Environment Researcher Mahbub Siddiqui said, 'The issues of losses  we are facing now have been made far earlier.

We will see the picture of the present loss in future. Such a situation has been created as we are using the world in an undisciplined way' . He further mentioned, since a number of countries of the world are mainly responsible for environmental damage of the world, we should realise compensation of the damage from those countries and the youngmen and women should take a pioneering role in this connection. 

The conference was addressed, among others, by the Vice-Chancellor of North-East University Dr Elias Uddin Biswas, Associate Professors of the department of Anthropology of RU Avijit Roy  and Kazi Rabiul Alam, Associate Professor of the department of Zoology Kazi Rabiul Alam and President of Barendra Poribesh Zakir Hossain. 

The first day of the function was conducted by Researcher Pavel Partho where Researcher Shahidul Islam presented a Research Paper on the Barind region. Sheikh Tasnim Jamal, Convener of Barendra Region Youth Organisation presided over the function.
